Privacy Policy

Added Time is a focus app that helps you set aside time to concentrate and, if you choose, shield distracting apps while you focus. It's free to download, with an optional paid tier called Added Time Plus. This policy explains how Added Time handles your information. It is about the app; how this website counts its visitors is set out under This website.

At a glance

• No data collection. We don't collect, store, or receive any personal information.
• No servers of ours. Added Time has no backend and nowhere of ours to send your information. The app's only connections are Apple's own: the App Store purchase system, described under Purchases below, and, from version 1.0.1, when iCloud is on, your own iCloud, where it keeps a copy of your record (see The copy in your iCloud). Neither sends anything to us.
• No accounts. There's no sign-up, login, or profile — on either tier.
• No analytics or tracking. No usage analytics, no advertising, no third-party SDKs, no tracking of any kind.
• Your record stays yours. Your subjects, focus history, schedules, limits, and settings live on your iPhone. From version 1.0.1, when iCloud is on, a copy of the record is also kept in your own iCloud unless you turn it off. We can't see either.

What the app stores on your device

So the app works and remembers your setup, Added Time saves the following on your device:

• The subjects you create, and what each one asks for — hours per day, hours per week, or a habit.
• Your focus history — completed blocks, banked tallies, streaks, and your focus ratio.
• Any standing windows, daily limits, or screen-time goals you set up.
• Counts of what the scheduled shield did — the nights a window held, and the honest exits you took — and, for screen-time goals, a few coarse facts per day: whether the day stayed under its budget, roughly how far past it went, and whether a quiet morning was kept. These are day-by-day facts kept on your device — never a running total of your usage — so the app can show you your own record.
• Your preferences, such as the sound and haptics toggles.
• If you use app-shielding, the private, non-identifying references (“tokens”) to the apps you chose to block.
• A local note of whether your Added Time Plus subscription is currently active, so the app and its extensions work the same way when you're offline.

None of this is ever sent to us, and we have no way to see it. From version 1.0.1, when iCloud is on, the record (your subjects, focus history and kept habits, and your windows, limits and goals, without the apps you picked) is also copied to your own iCloud (below). The shield's counts and day facts, your kit, your preferences and the Plus note stay on this iPhone only, and deleting the app removes them. Settings → Export the record still writes every block to a spreadsheet you keep.

The copy in your iCloud (version 1.0.1 and later)

From version 1.0.1, when iCloud is on, Added Time keeps a copy of your record in your own iCloud, so it can come back if you delete the app or move to a new iPhone.

• What's in it: your subjects, every block and kept habit, and your windows, limits and screen-time goals, without any apps you picked: not the apps a subject hides during its blocks, nor those for windows, limits and goals. Apple's app tokens stay on the iPhone that made them, so after a reinstall or on a new iPhone you choose those apps again. Not in it: the shield's counts and the screen-time goals' day-by-day facts, your kit, your preferences, or the Plus note.
• Where it lives: in Added Time's own private folder in your iCloud, under your Apple Account. It is not in the Files app, and never anywhere of ours. It counts toward your iCloud storage.
• We can't see it. It goes from your iPhone to your iCloud and nowhere else. Apple stores it like your other iCloud Drive files; with Advanced Data Protection turned on, it's end-to-end encrypted.
• When it's made: as you use the app, when you leave it after a change, at most every two hours, once your record holds something (a block, a kept habit, a window or a limit). The app removes one of its own older copies only after a newer one that holds at least as much has reached your iCloud. Copies made by an earlier install or another iPhone are left alone.
• It's on by default, on every tier. Turn it off in the app under Settings → Keep a copy in iCloud. While it's off, Added Time doesn't read or write its iCloud folder on its own, so it makes no new copy and offers none back. A copy already there stays until you remove it. Deleting and reinstalling the app turns the copy back on.
• To remove it: in Added Time, open Settings, turn off Keep a copy in iCloud, then tap Remove the copies from iCloud and confirm. It removes the copies in your iCloud, including ones an earlier install or another iPhone made, and never the record on your iPhone. If Added Time is on more than one iPhone, turn off Keep a copy in iCloud on each of them first: an iPhone with it on makes a new copy the next time it's used. If you've already deleted Added Time, reinstall it and do the same, without bringing the copy back: a new install makes no copy until its record holds a block, a kept habit, a window or a limit. The app is the only place to remove them: iOS doesn't list Added Time in its iCloud storage settings.
• It needs iCloud: if you're signed out, iCloud Drive is off for Added Time, or your iCloud is full, no copy reaches iCloud, and the app's Settings says so.
• Bringing it back: after a reinstall, or on a new iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud on, Today offers the copy while the record on that iPhone is still new. Nothing is replaced until you choose, and the record it replaces is kept on your iPhone, never deleted.

Screen Time permission

If you choose to block or limit apps, Added Time asks your permission to use Apple's Screen Time features (Family Controls, Device Activity, and Managed Settings). Here's what that means for your privacy:

• The permission lets the app shield the apps you pick and notice when a usage limit is reached — entirely on your device.
• When you pick apps to block, Apple hands the app only opaque, non-identifying tokens. The app cannot read which specific apps or websites these are, and the tokens stay on your device.
• The screen-time dashboard is drawn inside a separate report extension, which Apple's Device Activity framework seals off from the rest of the app. Your usage numbers are displayed to you there and are never passed back out — so we could not see them even in principle.
• Apple mediates this permission. Added Time uses it solely to provide the blocking and limit features you turn on. It is never used to monitor you, and nothing it tells the app is ever sent to us.
• You can revoke this permission at any time in Settings → Screen Time on your iPhone.

What we don't do

• We don't collect analytics or crash reports.
• We don't use advertising or advertising identifiers.
• We don't track you across apps or websites.
• We don't share, sell, or rent data — because we don't have any.
• We include no third-party code, SDKs, or services.

Purchases and Added Time Plus

Added Time is free to download and free to keep using. Added Time Plus is an optional upgrade, sold only through the App Store — as an auto-renewing subscription (monthly or yearly) or as a one-time lifetime purchase. The billing terms are set out in the Terms of Service.

• Apple handles the money. Every purchase, renewal, and refund is processed by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. We never receive or store your payment details, your card, your billing address, or your Apple Account.
• We get no personal information from your purchase. Apple pays out and reports sales in aggregate. We can't identify you as a customer, and we're not told who bought what.
• What the app checks, and with whom. Two things, both handled by Apple's own App Store software and both going only to Apple. When the app opens it asks the App Store for the current Plus prices, so the paywall can show them if you ever look — that happens whether or not you have bought anything. And to know whether your Plus features should be switched on, it asks whether an active Added Time Plus purchase exists for the Apple Account signed in on the device, and gets back a yes or a no. Neither sends anything about your subjects, blocks, schedules, history, or app usage — none of which is ever sent to us.
• Still no account. Your purchase lives with your Apple Account. There is nothing to register with us, no password, and no email address for us to hold.
• Family Sharing. If you share the purchase with your family group, Apple manages that entirely. We aren't told who is in your family.

If your subscription lapses, nothing you created is deleted or sent to us. The paid features simply stop enforcing, and your record stays exactly as it is, on your device. From version 1.0.1, when iCloud is on, its copy in your iCloud keeps being made: the copy is never a paid feature.

This website

This website (addedtime.app) is hosted by Netlify. To see how many people visit and how quickly its pages load, we use Netlify’s own tools:

• Visit counts. Netlify counts visits from its server logs: the page requested, the page you came from, your browser type, and your approximate location from your IP address. We see only totals, such as page views, visitors, top pages and countries.
• Page speed. A small Netlify script on each page measures how quickly it loads and responds, and sends those measurements with the page’s address, your browser, operating system, and whether you’re on a phone or a computer. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device.
• What neither does. No cookies, no advertising, no tracking across other sites, and nothing is sold. Neither ever sees what you do in the focus & study timer: your marks and settings stay in your browser.

Netlify processes this under its own privacy policy. None of it applies to the Added Time app, which collects nothing at all.

The focus & study timer on this website

The free focus & study timer on this website runs entirely in your browser. To remember things between visits it uses your browser’s local storage, which stays on your device. Unlike a cookie, local storage is never sent along with requests to our website or to anyone else’s.

• What it keeps: your timer settings (the lengths, the whistle, notifications, rolling on, keyboard shortcuts); the clock that’s running (when the current block or break reaches its length, how long it has been paused, and the moment the page was last closed, so a block left in extra time can settle when you come back); and a short list of your finished blocks: for each, the date, the minutes played and the length it was set to. It also keeps a running count of blocks, the total minutes and the date of your first block, so “all time” stays true, and the timestamps of the last few blocks, used only so two open tabs never count the same block twice. To play the whistle in just one open tab, it also keeps a random tab id (new on every visit) and when that tab last checked in, and it notes when you last pressed a control, so “roll on” stops after four quiet hours. Blocks older than a year are removed the next time you open the timer.
• It never leaves your browser. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else, and we have no way to see it.
• No cookies, no advertising networks, and no third-party code of its own. The site-wide visit counts and page-speed measurements described under This website apply to this page too, but your marks, totals and settings are never part of them. The panel beneath the timer shows our own app, as a plain link.
• Notifications are off unless you turn them on. If you do, your browser asks your permission, and the notifications are shown by your browser, on your device.
• You can erase it at any time. “Erase my hours from this browser” on the timer page erases your marks and totals. Clearing this site’s data in your browser’s settings removes everything, settings and the running clock included. A private window keeps nothing once it’s closed.

Children's privacy

Added Time does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because the app collects no data at all, it collects none from children under 13 (or the equivalent age in your region).

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, we'll update the date at the top and post the new version at this page. The app still collects no data. The last change, for version 1.0.1, added the copy in your own iCloud described above.
