Added Time

For journalists

Press kit

Added Time is a match clock for the hours you promised yourself — an exam, a degree, an instrument, a sport. Pause and the minutes are added on rather than lost; the record of what you did is free forever; and the app blocking that guards those hours while the app is closed is the subscription.

Everything below is free to quote. Nothing here needs to be cleared with us first. Launched 23 September 2026 on the App Store, for iPhone.

The documents

Four pages, and what each is for

Fact sheet

What it is, the three layers, every price, the private-by-design architecture, minimum iOS, devices, languages, the launch date, and how to reach us. One page.

The founder story

The origin is the pitch: LSAT hours, physics problem sets, and a weekly count of hours in the air. Among other things, this is a paragliding accountability app. Pull quotes at the end.

Founder Q&A

Why the name, why there are no analytics, why the ledger is free, what you are actually paying for, what happens if you stop paying, and why iPhone only.

The refusals

What this app will never do. The list the app is designed against, pointed equally at our own marketing. If you quote one page, quote this one.

The money shot

The whistle

If you run one image, run the second of these two. The main clock is held at 42:26; beneath it, ADDED TIME counts up in orange. Those minutes get added to the end, because a paused minute wasn't a minute toward the goal. The mechanic is the transition between the two frames — which is why they are supplied as a pair.

The Match screen in play: a dark screen, the subject App development at the top, a split-flap clock reading 41:46, the line “of 60′ · +00:00” beneath it, and a large orange disc showing a pause symbol.

The same screen held: the clock greyed at 42:26 under the word HELD, and beneath it “ADDED TIME” with +00:05 counting up in orange split-flap digits, labelled counting up · clock paused.

What Added Time will never do

Most apps in this category are built out of small coercions. So the refusals are written down in the product's own planning documents, before anyone asks for them — naming a thing is how it stays refused. The same list points at our own marketing. The full text, with the reasoning, is in the-refusals.md.

In the app

  • No intercept or temptation counters
  • No social accountability, shame-sharing or bets
  • No streak-loss theater — days active is a total, never a run
  • Nothing turns red; nothing is called wasted, missed or failed
  • No paywalled escape valves — breaks and the emergency exit are free on every tier
  • No hardcore or prison mode as a pitch
  • No shaming about screen use at all

In how we sell it

  • No urgency devices — no countdowns, no struck-through prices, no manufactured scarcity
  • No incentivized or gated reviews
  • No streak-guilt re-engagement — there are no emails, because there are no accounts
  • No astroturfing
  • No competitor names in our App Store keywords
  • No tracking-based growth — no attribution SDKs, no ad pixels, no retargeting
  • No fear-of-phone advertising

Every one of these makes the app harder to grow. That is the trade, and it was made on purpose. If any of it ever changes, it will be visible in the app, and you may hold this page up.

At a glance

The facts

  • Free — the whole ledger, uncapped: subjects, the clock, the whistle, Today, the Week, History, the Record at every range, Live Activity, Siri and Shortcuts, breaks, the screen-time dashboard, export of the entire record to a spreadsheet, and one standing window, kept forever.
  • Added Time Plus — standing windows for the whole week, daily limits, screen-time goals with step-down coaching, and the doorman's ledger. $4.99/month · $29.99/year with a 7-day free trial · $79.99 once. Family Sharing on all three.
  • Lapsing deletes nothing. Extra windows, limits and goals stop being enforced and rest in the Week; resubscribe and they pick up where they were.
  • iOS 18.0 or later · iPhone only · English and Spanish (es-419).
  • No accounts, no servers of ours, no analytics, no third-party dependencies. The record lives on the phone and, from version 1.0.1, when iCloud is on, a copy lives in the user's own iCloud, which we can't see. App blocking is Apple's own on-device Screen Time framework, which hands the app opaque tokens — it cannot read which apps you picked.

Images

What's in the kit

The app icon at 1024, 512, 256, 128 and 64 px, and six device captures at 750 × 1630 — the two match frames above, the Record at its career range, Today, the week's plan, and last week paged back and inked. All in the zip.

On light and dark: the Match screen is drawn dark in the app always — that is the design, not a mode — so both match frames are dark. Today, the Week and the Record are supplied in the app's warm-paper light appearance; the app follows the system setting on those screens, we simply haven't captured a dark set. Ask and we'll shoot one.

The screenshots are real captures from a real device with real hours on it. Nothing in them is mocked up, and no figure in them was invented for marketing.

Permission: the text is free to quote at any length. The images may be reproduced in coverage of Added Time without asking and without a fee — please don't recolour them or composite them into something the app doesn't do, and please don't use the icon or the name to imply we endorse anything. "Added Time" is attribution enough; a link to addedtime.app is appreciated. Full terms are in the kit's README.

User quotes

There aren't any yet, deliberately

Beta testers haven't been asked for permission to publish their words, and we won't run a paraphrase, a composite, or a "representative" quote in the meantime. When permissioned quotes exist they'll appear here and in the kit. Until then this slot stays empty rather than filled with something invented — which is, more or less, the whole point of the page above.

Ask for anything

A specific screen, a different size, a capture in dark, a review copy, an interview — just ask. We say yes to almost everything, and we answer quickly because there is only one person to get through.
